Entry: Marketing Wednesday, December 15, 2004

I was watching 60 minutes this evening.  I was really upset by one of the stories.  This story was about how marketers are using tween girls to market different producers.  One of the women appeared to me to pass it off as a benefit to these girls.  Here is the link:

On this side of the pond the age group are known as the 'tweenies'. Advertisers are clever people and know the pester power that children can use to drive parents mad. My son isn't really into all that yet. But darling daughter might give me some sleepless nights!! I usually only buy things that are educational and leave toy giving to the relatives. Clothes are fine providing they are modest and becomng for a girl that age.. However she's being an absolute horror because I will not allow her to dress like barbie!! That is non-negotiable.
